The Rio Santiago river which flows from the high mountains is approximately twenty miles west of the La Ceiba airport. This river, which borders one side the resort property, has a number of deep pools where one can dive off the warm rocks or just relax on the rocks while soaking in the warm Honduran sun. There are a number of trails on the property which offer opportunities to hike to some of the many waterfalls. Along the way you will have the chance to see some of the most beautiful birds the country has to offer. There are over 300 different species of birds that have been seen in the area, however the area is largely unexplored so we encourage you to add to the list. A few of the birds that are regularly seen are the Keel-billed Toucan, Stripe-throated Hermit hummingbird, Montezuma Oropendola, Turquoise-browed Motmot and many more.
The Pico Bonito National Park is host to some interesting and rare wildlife. Being located next to the Park the resort also hosts some of the same animals. While walking the trails or swimming in the natural pools you have the opportunity to see monkeys, mountain cats, deer, and a variety of other animals as well as the natural beauty of the rain forest. There are also a large variety of interesting insects at the resort. A number of insect collectors including the owner of the insect museum in La Ceiba have visited the resort to add to their insect collections.
