BIRDING THE LODGE AT PICO BONITO- THE LOVELY COTINGA

One of Honduras’ best-known birding destinations is The Lodge at Pico Bonito, 20 miles to our east and also bordering The National Park.

The Lodge, with its 400 acre private preserve, has become renowned among tropical birders as the best place to see the elusive Lovely Cotinga.  Especially abundant throughout the winter months, this neon-electric, striking blue and purple species can be seen reliably, albeit in lesser numbers year round.  

A pristine forest setting, extensive trail system, 3 observation platforms and the abundance of tree species that these birds need for food, ensure that there is no better place to add this (and many other) species to our life list.

The Lodge’s bird list exceeds 400 species.  An afternoon or morning of birding at this world class destination is a must for anyone who is passionate about tropical birding.
